A Short Throw
This is one is a little different from my usual fare. Thankfully so, we don’t get many projectors in here. Word on the street is that BenQ makes some decent models, so I got to be a little optimistic about this one. No, I was not replaced by a being from another world.
MOBILE PROJECTION
Somehow people are attracted to things that they can move around. Projectors fall into this category. There is a mental image of the kind of person who travels with a projector. It often includes shirts and ties. In the extreme version, the person in question is also trying to sell you something. The look would be nicely complemented by the GP10. It has a non-offensive look that would be just right for a presentation. Not to mention that it is proportioned nicely to be transported. Weighing relatively close to nothing, I would dare comment that BenQ knows what it is doing.
SHORT RANGE
For some reason, BenQ claims that this is for home use. As in something that can turn any room into an adhoc theatre. I tried this. One thing to note about houses is that they often lack empty wall space to project an image. Setting up the conditions to watch a movie took longer than watching the movie. According to technical specifications, the GP10 projects a 40in image from one metre. One metre from any wall tends to mean the middle of the room. To get a table of the right height is either a matter of extremely careful planning or dumb luck. That being said, there are other ways of getting this done. One simply has to be creative enough to figure it out. Like a puzzle.
LOADING IMAGE
Admittedly, a projector will have an extremely difficult time matching the image quality of a proper HDTV. So if that’s what you’re expecting here, you might need to have your head examined. What you do get is a decent image that is adequate to watch standard resolution videos. The projector can manage up to 720p reasonably, although that is if you manage to get the projection distance right. At other distances, the image becomes slightly fuzzy. It works fine for presentations, but the HD generation of today might get a little annoyed.
