COOLER Master Ceres 400
A good price, but bettered by the Ozone ST

+ JUPITER Good bass; low price

 -  CERES Poor sound quality; feels cheap

At just over £30, the CM Storm Ceres 400 is exceptionally well priced compared to the rest of the field this month. However, unlike Ozone’s ST, which costs even less, the Ceres 400 feels a little cheap and plasticky, rather than feeling like a quality headset.

Thankfully, we had no complaints in terms of comfort though; the generous 90mm ear pads do a great job of cushioning the headset against your skull.

Meanwhile, a positional boom microphone can be swung out of the way when not needed, and the in-line volume control and microphone mute switch can come in handy when you need to make quick audio changes in the middle of a game.

Sadly, we were unimpressed by the Ceres 400’s audio. Despite its 40mm drivers, the sound was decidedly average. It lacked detail, particularly in the mid-range and high end, although the bass was respectable.

In our movie action scene test, these shortcomings were keenly felt, with a lack of detail surrounding effects such as explosions. Acoustic music also suffered from a lack of clarity compared with the competition, with the Ozone ST putting in a far better performance.

CONCLUSION

While its keen price means we expected less from the Ceres 400 than the more expensive

models on test, if you’re after a new headset in this price range, we suggest you take a look at Ozone’s ST instead.
