You first notice the sheer size of Cooler Master’s Sonuz headset when you take it out of the box; it’s absolutely huge when perched on your head. Thankfully, the bulk doesn’t result in a lack of comfort.While also quite heavy, the Sonuz is generally pleasant to wear, although there’s a touch too much pressure on your ears. The ear cups are also well-cushioned, and use fabric foam rather than leatherette for the cushions. However, due to the open-back design, they won’t block outside noises; gamers with housemates beware.
Meanwhile, the Sonuz’s removable rotating boom microphone can be switched to either ear cup or removed entirely, while an in-line control enables you to adjust the volume and mute the microphone.
However, while the Cooler Master Sonuz’s audio quality was markedly superior to that of the Ceres 400, it still lagged behind the competition. Bass and mid-range sounded reasonable in both delicate and hard-hitting audio, but the high end was lacking, especially in busy action scenes in games and movies.
CONCLUSION
The middle of the road is where the Sonuz finds itself – it isn’t bad but neither is it great. The cheaper Ozone ST actually sounds better for much less money, while spending just £15 more will net you the superb QpadQH-90, which sounds fantastic and is more comfortable to wear.
