Great audio quality, and they’re wireless too Price £97
+ WI-FI Great quality wireless audio; comfortable; minimal USB hiss
- LO-FI £35 premium for wireless
Corsair’s chunky plastic Vengeance 2000 integrates an RF 2.4GHz wireless antenna and on-board battery, enabling cord-free listening, with the headset connecting to your PC via a USB dongle for data, and a mini-USB cable for charging.
Corsair claims the Vengeance 2000’s battery life can be as long as ten hours, but we found that six hours was a more realistic target. You can continue listening when charging, though, and the quoted wireless range of 6m works fine as long as there isn’t a wall between yourself and the dongle.
Meanwhile, the fabric-covered ear cups provide a reasonable amount of noise isolation without cutting you off from the outside world, while the wide and well- padded headband means that, despite its size, the Vengeance 2000 doesn’t feel excessively hefty.
The audio quality is also great, with lots of high-end detail and superb thumping bass, although the sound is a little lacking in the mid-range. There’s none of the hiss you often hear from USB headsets either.
CONCLUSION
For a shade less than £100, the Vengeance 2000 offers great audio quality, a comfortable fit and sports the welcome extra of wireless audio. You’ll pay a £35 premium for the latter over headsets such as the Qpad QH-90, but if you want to cut the cord, it’s the best headset we’ve found to do so.
